Wolverines Before the Europeans came there were many wolverines. Trapping and hunting led to their first decline.
Problem From 1840 - 1925 wolverines were wiped out in more than half of North American territory. With human encroachment, wolverines habitats began to deteriorate. With ever increasing logging, and man-made roads, wolverines were cut off from their home land. What's being done? Since 1981 in Québec, hunting and trapping wolverines has been banned. But once a species has been threatened, history has shown it's hard for that species' numbers to grow, especially one with a low birth rate. Why must we save it? Wolverines are a native animal of Canada and play a unique role in the ecosystem: that of a scavenger.
